Evolution Sitardelic by Orange Tree Samples is a sampled electric sitar instrument designed to reproduce the distinctive resonance and character of this specialty electric guitar. Introduced in the late 1960s, the electric sitar uses a specially designed bridge and resonance strings to emulate aspects of the traditional sitar sound. Its unique tone has found a place in classic rock, modern jazz, and fusion music.
The sampled instrument features a semi-hollow pine body with a Masonite top, Brazilian rosewood fretboard, and classic lipstick-style single-coil pickups. A full octave of drone strings adds resonance and depth, creating the characteristic tonal texture associated with electric sitar performances.
The library was developed in collaboration with Rosewood Recording Company in Utah. Guy Randle, the studio's owner and recording engineer, used analog audio equipment to shape and emphasize the guitar's tonal qualities. The sampling session featured Rich Dixon, an award-winning session guitarist, international performer, and educator specializing in jazz theory and improvisation.
Software Overview
Evolution Sitardelic combines detailed electric sitar sampling with an integrated guitar effects engine. Its collection of modeled guitar pedals, selectable cabinet sizes, and microphone options provides a range of tools for shaping the instrument's sound without requiring external guitar effects processors.
The instrument also includes performance controls for adjusting pick position, shaping vibrato, mapping articulations, and creating strumming patterns. These features provide flexibility for incorporating its distinctive electric sitar tone into different musical arrangements.
